Pasila

Modern Helsinki was created when Finland gained independence from Russia in 1917.
The new republic flourished over the years 20 and 30 of the twentieth century, a time when the country’s most famous architect Alvar Aalto, created the architectural movements of modernism and functionalism. The city of Helsinki hosted Olympics thus moving into the international arena.

The city of Helsinki is one of the most modern cities in Europe and the culturally very progressive among the Scandinavian countries.
The particular mix of East and West of Helsinki’s cultural scene has its highest representation in the contrast between the simple lines of Finlandia Hall and the rich decoration of the Uspensky Cathedral. The Lutheran Cathedral, the Church of Temppleliaukio built on a rock, the fortress island Suomenlianna, the Esplanade Park, the port and market place make Helsinki one of the top destinations in the world.

The possibilities of spending vacation in Helsinki are quite varied depending on the time of your visit. Helsinki always has something to offer to its guests, in summer you can make boat trips, go fishing and sailing, or hiking Porvoo (located 50kms from Helsinki), in winter you can ski, skate and enjoy other winter sport activities.

Pasila is a known suburb in Helsinki the capital of Finland. A railroad yard separates the eastern and western parts of Pasila. Recently the city administration has planned to develop the central part of Pasila.
Exactly in Pasila you will find one of the biggest concert halls in Helsinki Hartwall Areena most commonly known as Helsinki Areena which was built in 1997 and it is an arena for a lot of concerts, festivals and sport competitions.
The western part of Pasila is mostly a residential area and is known to be among the best places to live in Helsinki, meanwhile its eastern part is a commercial district and is famous for its railway station, opened in the year 1862, the second busiest station in the country.  Unlike other Helsinki stations, which only manage to cover local traffic, Pasila is able to cover long distance traffic.
Pasila is an interesting part of Helsinki and you should not miss the chance to visit it once you are there.
