Tampere Airport
Once you are in Finland you should undoubtedly visit the city of Tampere which is considered to be the third largest city of Finland after Helsinki and Espoo. Tampere is located between two beautiful lakes Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi . The proximity of water still remains as one of the attractive features of Tampere: the city has about 180 small lakes.
Today Tampere is a big city, retaining warmth and hospitality of a small town.

Tampere is also known for its airport, the Tampere-Pirkkala Airport that is considered to be the second busiest international airport in Finland. In 2009 the airport had more than 700 thousand passengers. It operates domestic flights and international flights through companies like Ryanair, Wizz Air, Blue 1 and Finncomm Airlines.The airport consists of two terminals. The first terminal is the main terminal and is used by most airlines, while the second one is mainly used for low-cost companies.
The airport disposes ATMs, currency exchange centers, VIP area, conference room, public phones and Wi-Fi. There is also a beautiful restaurant situated in the first terminal where you can spend your free time. Shopping is also possible as there a lot of shops including duty free and souvenir shops.
The airport corresponds to high international standards, it is equipped with all the necessary facilities for disabled people including ramps, toilets, etc. For passengers with special care needs wheelchairs are provided.
Tampere airport was founded in 1936 in Härmälä (a district in Tampere) located some 6 kilometers from the center of Tampere. The first terminal building was built in 1941.
Between 1936 and 1979 the Airport of Härmälä served 1.5 million passengers. In 1979 Härmälä airport was closed and the new airport opened in Pirkkala.
You can easily reach the airport of Tampere by public bus N61 it takes approximately 40 minutes or by taxi. The stops are in front of terminals.
