Turku University
As we already know from our previous posts Turku has a rich history and it has a great religious and educational importance.
In Turku there are a lot of city museums that can tell you about the history of the city: the Museum of History, the Museum of Crafts “Luostarinmyaki” , Museum of Fine Arts and many others. And of course, you should definitely visit the medieval castle of Turku, the most popular attraction of the city, and the Cathedral Tuomiokirkko – one of the most valuable architectural monuments in Finland.

The University of Turku, is an internationally known institution that enjoys a great reputation all over Finland. It is among the leading universities of Finland and one of the best one in the world.
The University of Turku is located in the city of Turku in its southwest coast. It was founded in 1920 after Finland’s independence from Sweden (in 1917). Before that there was only one university in Finland where studies were carried out in Swedish language. But later people contributed to the fundraising campaign thus creating an educational institution where they began to teach in Finnish.
The university is divided into six faculties:
- Faculty of Humanities
- Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
- Faculty of Medicine
- Faculty of Law
- Faculty of Social Sciences
- Faculty of Education Sciences
Today the University of Turku is a member of the Coimbra Group (a network of European universities that are located in non-capital cities) and the Baltic Sea Region University Network (BSRUN).
