Learn Finnish
If you have decided to learn Finnish then you should first of all have some general idea of this language. The Finnish is the official language of Finland which belongs to the Finno-Ugric group of languages together with Hungarian and Estonian languages. Although Finnish is an old language Standard Finnish, the written language came only in 1500s. Like all other languages Finnish also underwent the influences of other cultures over a period of time and only with the independence of Finland in 1917 it developed. Now Finland is considered to be bilingual country and both Swedish and Finnish are official languages of the country. Finish has two dialects Western and Eastern dialects.
The main characteristic of Finnish grammar is that it does not have noun gender and articles. Finnish is an inflection language it means that in order to show the grammatical function of the words they use endings and cases, that is why Finnish words are so long. Finnish is a melodic language with long and short vowels and consonants.
Finnish has 15 declension cases, while English only has two (nominative and genitive).
