Despite the fact that Finnish culture includes many different aspects, not all of which are related to snow and Santa Claus, it’s very interesting to notice that the main peculiarity of this country remains the snow.

When people think about vacationing in Finland, they immediately plan the trip in winter, so that they can enjoy the fairy-tale landscape, which is covered with super-soft snow in that season. However, this time our topic is somehow connected to Santa Clause, or to be more correct, with his home, Lapland.

If you are looking for this kind of vacation, then there is a spectacular hotel, that will give you the time of your dreams. The name is not easy for foreigners to pronounce, but make sure to remember it. The hotel is called Ounasvaaran Pirtit and is located in Rovaniemi.

First, be prepared, it’s not a huge hotel building with floors and apartment-like rooms. It’s a winter resort, with dozens of cute winter houses centered in the middle of evergreen trees and white hills.

There are around 73 apartments with beds that total in 343. This is a normal quantity for winter holiday-makers, but, just in case, make sure to book your cabin beforehand. You can bring your favorite food, but you must also know that there are around 300 places where you can dine. The majority of these places offer Lappish cuisine.

Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to use the traditional Finnish method of relaxation, the sauna. In fact, there will be place for everyone, as the hotel’s sauna can include around 35 people. Some cabins even have a sauna inside, so you can enjoy it all to yourself.

The resort accepts visitors in summer as well. Of course, the majestic  atmosphere of winter and snowflakes is already gone, but the green nature is also worth a stare. Hold on one minute; if we want to talk about what the resort is like in summer, we have to understand when exactly summer comes. Yes, I know, every child knows it, but season clocks work a little differently in Finland. It’s only during late summer months that the weather starts to smile. It depends on the year but April and May are still snow-covered in Lapland.

Even if you travel in winter, you won’t feel a bit of inconvenience. The cabins are very comfortable, they include cable and satellite TV, a small kitchenette for your own food.

Besides strolling around and making snowmen on your way, you can take part in activities organized by the hotel. Some of the activities include hiking, fishing, skiing, and so on.  There is no better place for such pleasures than the Arctic Circle. Due to this, you will enjoy nights more than days. The daylight period is very short, so plan the activities that require light very wisely. Otherwise it might be uncomfortable to skateboard at night, some painful things might happen, especially if you are not very well familiar with the surroundings.

I would recommend you to leave your laptop at home, as it’s a perfect chance to stay by yourself, think a little, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, which can’t be found everywhere these days. But if you can’t leave your business alone even for a week or two, you can easily use your gadgets at Ounasvaaran Pirtit, as the hotel has high speed Internet.

The staff is very friendly, with no exceptions. Even when the weather is cold in Finland, Finns will always be glad to help you out.

The earliest check-in time is 2:00 pm, while the latest check-out is 12:00 pm. You can also take your little pet along (or a big one, there are no limitations as to the size), only consider the possibility that some charges may apply.

The only thing you will have to take care yourself is the cleaning of your cabin. In any case, it’s so comfortable that chances are very low you will make a big mess. What concerns the size of the cabin, it will depend on where you come from. If you are from the USA, you might consider the rooms very small, well, in comparison with homes you’ve seen back home. But Europeans will take it as a nice and wide room, almost suitable for running around.

By the way, Santa Claus Village is only 10 minutes away by car. This sounds like a great way to celebrate Christmas, and there’s not much time left for such an important decision. Remember, that you can send postcards to Santa and even arrange for Santa to come to your cabin. Just imagine how your children will feel, they are in Lapland, there are snow and Christmas lights everywhere, and suddenly Santa visits them. It’s one of the best gifts you can give to your kids for Christmas.

As a conclusion to this cute resort, which will definitely catch your attention if you are interested in Finland and its culture, this can be the best family vacation in any season. Especially if you live in a big city, getting out to the nature, letting the kids communicate with it, and breathing the fresh air is priceless.

Christmas is fantastic, a real legend, which your children will never forget in their lives. Wooden cabins, Christmas lights everywhere and loads and loads of snow! This is a dream, a perfect time-out, and it’s right there, in Finland.
